We have a diverse range of wedding ceremony locations at Markovina Estate, all unique in their own way, with various benefits and reasons why they are so popular. Each of them feels like its own world, despite being all contained within our 10-acre Auckland wedding venue. Furthermore, we have won several wedding awards for the diversity of these stunning ceremony locations. However, with so much choice, it can be challenging to decide which ceremony location to make that lifelong commitment. In this blog series, we go through each location one by one and highlight their main features, seasonal changes, as well as the rich history behind the venue and each ceremony space. In this piece, we will be going through The Palms.
Palm trees, a staple of the Pacific, bring thoughts of tropical getaways spent on the beach. At Markovina Estate, our palm trees, located appropriately beside our pebble beach, are the perfect wedding backdrop all year round, and it isn’t hard to imagine why. Beautiful large trees rustle with the light breeze as your guests await the bride to walk down the aisle. As she walks towards the aisle, the guests stand, facing backwards, waiting for her to pop out from behind the gardens. Walking down the aisle, the sunlight glistens off the water of the pebble beach to the right, as guests get excited to witness such a momentous occasion in you and your partner's life.
The History
The palm trees were initially planted to create a beautiful spot for photographers to capture some of their wedding photos after the ceremony. Rina Markovina envisioned them as a seasonally timeless feature, and what better place than next to the Markovina Ponds and pebble beach. As the trees grew taller, the spot became increasingly popular for photos, not yet for ceremonies. However, this changed when a couple visited our Auckland wedding venue many years ago. As they were viewing the venue, they saw these great palm trees and decided at that moment that they wanted to get married in front of The Palms. From then on, it's one of our more popular ceremony locations, with couples all year round opting to hold their ceremonies there.
Seasonal Considerations
While palm trees are typically associated with summer heat and tropical getaways, one of the most significant benefits of these evergreen trees is that they appear similar all year round. This means you and your guests can enjoy the stunning backdrop this ceremony location offers, whether it's June or January. There is some shade in this ceremony space for ceremonies in the late evening, but not a great deal, which may be worth considering if you’ve got a long ceremony planned for the peak of summer.
Other Considerations
One benefit is its position tucked away from other areas of the venue. It creates a nice separation between your ceremony and reception, as you utilise various spaces across our wedding venue for each formality. Another benefit is that it is located right on the edge of the pebble beach. This could mean that after your ceremony concludes, guests can hang around the ceremony area and take your group photo on the pebble beach backdrop while enjoying bubbles and canapés brought to you by our Markovina staff.
Final Thoughts
With the palm trees, you get a taste of the tropics all within our garden wedding venue. There's no better spot to make a lifelong commitment.
